What is Housing Renewal?

Learn How to Re-Apply for Housing

Housing Renewal is the process during which current residential students can renew their contract for the next academic year. In addition to renewing their contract for an additional year, residents also get to self-select their own room space online during the week of Room Self-Selection.

Renewal occurs during the first week of March each year. Keep an eye on your UCCS student email for more information on Housing Renewal.

Be sure to complete your Housing Application online by March 2 at 5pm to ensure you receive a lottery time slot.

Renewal Timeline

The housing renewal timeline is listed below for convenient reference. This timeline includes the selection timeline as well as other events designed to help you throughout the process.

Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 7pm. Both sessions will be delivered on Zoom

Students who are unable to attend an informational session will be able to view the recorded video which will be forwarded via email after the events conclude.

Students who do attend the live event will receive as a reward a 1 day priority bump so that they may select a room a day before their lottery assigned date.

Students who are eligible to renew their current room space may do so on Monday, March 3 between Midnight - 11:55pm

Remember, not all rooms are eligible for renewal. Students residing in the following room types and areas will not be able to renew their current room space:

  • ADA equipped rooms
  • VAV Triple Suites
  • Eldora shared suites
  • Summit Village lofted shared suites
  • RA Rooms
  • Aspen (all)
  • La Plata (2nd floor)
  • Vail (all)

All of these buildings and room types are undergoing some type of configuration change, renovation, or repurposing for residential learning communities and won't be available for renewal or self selection.

Students wishing to renew their contract, but select a different room for Academic Year 25-26, should make note of the following dates:

  • Tuesday, March 4, 2025 - Senior students (90+ earned hours and graduate students)
  • Wednesday, March 5, 2025 - Junior Students (60-89 earned hours)
  • Thursday, March 6, 2025 - Sophomore Students (30-59 earned hours)
  • Friday, March 7, 2025 - All other first year students (29 or fewer earned hours)

If you select a new room on your selection date but then change your mind, you will be able to go back in and change your room space during "Room Swap Week". Room swap week takes place online via the Housing Application from March 10-14, 2025.

Renewal Vocabulary Words

These are words we used to describe various aspects of renewal that you should be familiar with to successfully navigate the process.

The housing promise is a new and exciting program where renewing students get to lock in the current term's housing rates for AY 25-26! This means that even if the rates for next academic year go up for new students, you will lock in the current year's rates for as long as you consecutively complete new housing contracts.

Your lottery date is the date assigned to you as your priority during the online self-selection process based on *earned credit hours. You will receive an email from housing containing your lottery date by 5pm on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

*Lottery dates are determined by the number of earned credit hours you had at the end of Fall 2024 term. Current hours in progress this spring are not included.

Open Housing is the new term being used to describe mixed gender housing units at UCCS. Formerly "Gender Inclusive Housing", the title was recently changed to reflect newly implemented federal policy.

Renewal refers to two different process. It can mean renewing your housing contract (regardless of the room you choose) or renewing your room space (selecting your same room for next year).

We call the whole process "renewal" but this does not necessarily mean you need to choose your current room again for next year.

Your roommate group members are the folks you want to live with next year. You can look for your friends/group members via the roommate matching page in housing application.

The group leader will have the ability during self-selection to assign the other members of the groups to rooms as long as the roommate requests were accepted, so make sure whoever the group leader is has the best lottery time slot priority.

You DO NOT have to have to be a part of a roommate group. You will be able to see all available room spaces during selection periods. The advantage of having a roommate group is that if your group leader has a better lottery date than you, they can pull you into the suite/apartment on their lottery date. This provides an advantage during room selection.

If you are counting on your Roommate Group leader to assign you, make sure they are reliable! If they forget to assign you and you do not choose a space yourself, you may miss out on the space you want.

Room self-selection is the process where a residential student logs into their housing application on their assigned lottery day to choose a new room space. This all occurs inside the housing portal application for Academic Year 25-26.

Renewal FAQs

These are some frequently asked questions that come up during the renewal period. We want to ensure you have all the information you need to be successful.

Yes! Roommate Speed Dating will take place in the Kettle Creek meeting room on Wednesday, February 26 at 6pm. It's a fun and festive environment where you can get to know a lot of people in a very short time. Come on out and make some friends!

No, though we encourage you to play this vital role in selecting your own home away from home. Any renewing student who has submitted a housing application for Academic Year 25-26, but does not select a room during self-selection, will be assigned by housing to an available room space once renewal ends.

If there is a specific room type or location you prefer, we highly encourage you to self-select your room space. Of course, housing will do their best to assign you based on your listed room type preferences if you don't wish to participate.

If you have selected a room, but you decide to cancel later, you have until May 31, 2025 to cancel your housing application and receive the refund of your damage deposit. Cancellations after May 31 will forfeit the deposit.

Students who need to submit a cancellation of their renewal space should access the cancellation form.

As residents are selecting rooms for next year, you will see them populate on the "application status" page of your housing application. You can go back into your application at any time, navigate to the housing application status page, and see the status of your roommates there.

Though we will be sad to see you go, no additional forms or activities are required for students who are not returning to housing next academic year. Your current housing contract will run out on Friday, May 16th at noon. We wish you well in your future endeavors and will always be here should you choose to return in the future.

Know that if your housing plans change or fall through, we will continue to accept housing applications on a rolling basis through the start of term on August 25, 2025.
