Move Out Information
Students who need summer school housing may apply until May 1st. Remember that you must be enrolled in a summer OR fall course to live in summer school housing.
Students who have applied for summer school housing will stay in their current room space until the Friday immediately after Spring move out. On that day, you can pick up your keys from the La Plata front desk for your summer school room in Crestone and begin transitioning to your new room assignment over the weekend. Your move must be complete, and room keys to your old room space must be returned to the front desk by the Monday after keys are picked up. If you are not here during this time to move your belongings, you will need to completely remove all belongings before the Friday move date and then move back in to your summer school space when you return to campus.
Note for Summer School residents: It’s unlikely, but we’ll email you if your room is available earlier than that Friday.
All students must move out by the last day of finals week at Noon unless they have submitted and received approval for a Late Stay.
A maximum of 3 days after check out date is permitted. Late stays will incur a charge of $40 per day.
Students must utilize the Express Check-out dropbox in their village to turn in their keys.
If you are not staying for summer school housing, you must remove all of your belongings and depart campus. No summer storage option is available since every room will be utilized for summer conference housing. Check out our Ditch-the-Dumpster page for unwanted items.
Remember that the last person to move out of a suite or apartment is responsible for ensuring the common areas are clean. If your apartment or suite is not cleaned upon move-out or trash is left behind, your entire suite will be charged for cleaning.
- The Express Check-out dropbox is located in the La Plata lobby for Alpine Village (across from the laundry room) and the Monarch lobby for Summit Village (next to the Residence Life and Housing office in suite 1102).
- If the resident does not utilize Express Checkout to return their keys, the resident will incur a $50.00 improper checkout fee. If the keys have been lost, there will be $100 fee to replace them. We don't accept keys mailed back to campus.
Mail and package pick-up will end for the Spring term on the last day of finals week at noon. Please plan accordingly. Any packages or mail pieces delivered after the last day of finals will be returned to the sender or forwarded to your chosen forwarding address if you submitted one through StarRez. Any packages delivered over the summer cannot be forwarded. You will need to make arrangements to get your package or it will be returned to the sender. We will not hold packages over the summer. Students attending summer school will continue to receive their mail and packages from the La Plata front desk as usual.
If you need your mail forwarded over the summer, please submit your mail forwarding address utilizing the Mail Forward address form on the Housing Application Portal.
The following special parking regulations will be imposed during certain high traffic times of the year. Keep your eyes on your UCCS student email about when these special parking provisions go into effect.
VAV Residents
- Friends and Family may park their vehicles on level 4 of the Alpine Garage without purchasing a parking permit or paying for hourly parking.
- You may park in a 5/15/30-minute loading zone for up to 1 hour to move out between 8 am and 10 pm. You may never park in a disabled space without a state-issued disabled permit.
- You may park on the Cucharas/LaPlata side of the VAV pedestrian spine for up to one hour between 8 am and 10 pm.
- The VAV Pedestrian Spine is a fire lane; thus, a minimum of a 12-foot roadway must be maintained at all times on the south side (Crestone side) of the sidewalk for fire department access. - Parking in a posted fire lane (other than the Pedestrian Spine as described above), loading dock, roadway, or disabled space without a state-issued handicap permit, or any other reserved space will not be allowed at any time and will result in a citation.
- There will be some campus-wide parking permit requirement waivers during the period of move out. During these days, you may park in any regular permitted space on campus without having to have a permit or pay for parking.
Many students will need to use these areas for move-out, so please be respectful of each other and abide by the parking rules, especially not staying in loading zones for longer than one hour. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Parking Services.

Move-in Information
An email will go out July 1st asking residents to log in to their StarRez portal to set up a move-in appointment. There will be hourly appointments 9am-5pm Monday and Tuesday the week before classes start. We strongly advise booking non-refundable travel arrangements after the move-in appointment is confirmed. Please note that the number of appointments available each day is limited.
Click here to download a map to help you navigate Move-In.
**All residence hall students must schedule a move-in appointment. **
A move in appointment is a 60 minute time slot during which you will stop by your designated check in area to pick up your keys and other supporting information. This appointment is for key pick up and information only. You can then move in at your convenience after you pick up your keys.
In order to provide you with the best arrival experience, there are a limited number of move-in appointments available on each day. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once appointments during a designated time are filled, additional appointments won't be added.
